Rival Bros. Coffee Goes Brick-and-Mortar

Rival Bros. Coffee Bar
2400 Lombard Street; website, Facebook
Status: Soft-open today; official grand opening Friday, May 9

While the official grand opening is tomorrow, May 9, Rival Bros. Coffee Bar opened its doors a little early in Fitler Square: shots are being pulled from the custom matte black La Marzocco, High Street on Market pastries have been delivered, Twitter's already fairly blowing up. This is the first brick-and-mortar cafe from Jonathan Adams (a.k.a. Jonny Mac, former exec at Pub & Kitchen and the Diving Horse) and Damien Pileggi (who worked for La Colombe for years), who have been operating the Rival Bros. coffee truck since 2011.

For now, it seems the truck will remain off the road, though it's still available to be rented out for special events.

In addition to drip and espresso drinks made with all of the blends (yup: Revolver, Whistle & Cuss) and single-origin beans they roast off-site in Fishtown, they've got whole-leaf teas from House of Tea and Fentimans sodas. A selection of High Street pastries and breads will be delivered every morning (here arehttps://twitter.com/HollyMoore/status/464388894604029952 today's pastries, courtesy of Holly Moore), and you can buy loaves to take with you or have them toast you a slice to spread with Trickling Springs butter and jams from Green Aisle Grocery's house brand (first up: blueberry-cardamom).

On the retail side, there are beans to take home and all the equipment Adams and Pileggi would recommend you use to brew them. The shop's hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
