HopChef 2014 Winner; New Cheesesteaks for Fishtown

CALLOWHILL — Cheu Noodle Bar's Ben Puchowitz was the big winner at last night's Hop Chef competition at Union Transfer. (He served smoked duck buns paired with Ommegang Rare Vos.) Puchowitz will now move on to the national competition, held at Ommegang HQ up in Cooperstown, NY. The people's choice award went to City Tap House's Chad Vetter, who served cherry-glazed lamb ribs over a black olive-gorgonzola puree. [EaterWire]

FISHTOWN — A new cheesesteak shop called First Street Steaks & Hoagies is on its way by the Girard El stop. They're aiming for a few "elevated" options and making their own Whiz, and hope to be open by August 10. [Philly.com]
