Chhaya cafe on East Passyunk has closed the doors at its original location, about two weeks before the anticipated opening of their new, larger space just two doors down. The grand opening at 1819 East Passyunk Avenue is scheduled for Thursday, August 21. (Looks like they've still been selling coffee on the sidewalk in the mornings, though.)

Upon opening the new shop, the menu will be similar (coffee, dope waffles, sandwiches, brunch on weekends), but space and seating will be greatly increased. Owner Varnana Beuria was apparently inspired by the design of Washington D.C.'s upscale diner and coffee bar The Coupe, which you can check out on Eater D.C. Unlike the Coupe, Chhaya won't be open 'round the clock: Hours at the new shop will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the kitchen closing daily at 3:30 p.m, after lunch.
