One Last Chance to Eat Geechee Girl's Fried Chicken

The now-shuttered restaurant will be home to one last party this weekend.

Go Mt. Airy/Geechee Girl Rice Cafe

Geechee Girl Rice Cafe sadly called it a day following service on New Year's Eve, after over a decade of serving Low Country specialties and more to Mt. Airy (and, once, to Guy Fieri).

But according to a report from the Insider, there will be one more chance to celebrate chef-owner Valerie Erwin (and her beloved fried chicken) this Saturday, January 10. The tribute dinner ($100-$250; tickets here) will be held at Geechee Girl and will feature a buffet prepared by guest chefs — including Erwin's family-recipe fried chicken, prepared by her sister, who previously managed the restaurant's front of house.

The reason for the shuttering was simply financial, with Erwin telling Klein, "Last winter was so terrible, we never really recovered."
