Sweetgreen, the tremendously popular, fast-casual salad chain, will open the doors to their new digs (at 1821 Chestnut Street) this Friday, October 16. This Rittenhouse location will be its third in Philadelphia, and fourth in the Philly area (there's another in Ardmore, PA). The new outpost will be bigger, more centrally located, and just a little bit fancier (interior photography by Neal Santos, and a soon-to-come exterior mural), making it sweetgreen's Philadelphia flagship location.
Unlike the others, this location will have an open kitchen, high ceilings, and bleacher seating. Sweetgreen co-founder/co-CEO Nathanial Ru explained that the bleacher seating isn't just something new and different for Rittenhouse; in addition, he hopes to recreate the sense of community and cultural vibrancy found in the neighborhood through a unique seating arrangement in the new location. And despite any changes you might see in the flagship location, the menu is still just as you'd find in the other locations: seasonal salads and soups, made to order.
Sweetgreen Rittenhouse will bring a new food option to a strip of Chestnut Street that's predominantly retail-heavy. With Center City's colossal lunch crowd, having a fast-casual and healthy alternative nearby can only be a good thing.
