Sooner than you think, Fishtown will get its favorite bagel shop, five days a week (as opposed to the Sunday pop-up), all day (as opposed to when they run out).
Philly Style Bagels, the Fishtown pop-up bagelry that spends most of its days in Pizzeria Beddia's shop early in the mornings will open their first store, not-ironically, inside an old pizza shop (aptly named The Pizza Shop). Now, with a griddle (for egg sandwiches), house-spun cream cheeses, and Counter Culture coffee in their arsenal, Collin Shapiro and Jonathon Zilber will now be able to offer more of the same product that won Philly's hearts, but with no capacity and space limitations.
Starting with humble cured-salmon beginnings, the two friends from the industry began experimenting with vessels to eat their lox with. Bagels made with Yards beer turned into Philly Style Bagels, and in just eight weeks, the old pizza place at 1451 East Columbia Ave., right in front of a cute, little park, the two young Fishtowners will open their first (hopefully of many) bagelry, for all your smoked fish and cream cheese-y needs.
Stay tuned for updates, there are definitely more to come.
