Looks like all the hype surrounding the opening of cult-status Bonchon may have been a bit too much for it to bear. Faced with long wait times and sell-outs, the restaurant has decided to pull the plug on lunch service for the time being, as explained in this apologetic Facebook post that says the "exceptionally high demand was extremely unexpected":
The move is the latest in a line of scaling-back measures the shop has already undertaken in its first week to deal with demand. As of their soft opening debut last Wednesday, they announced they had to stop taking reservations and go walk-in only for the time being. Then on Thursday, they opted to limit service to dinner, from 5 p.m. to midnight, just through the opening weekend. (Original plans were to be open from lunch through late night.)
Now, until they say otherwise, business hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If you want to keep an eye on the situation, their Facebook page is the best way to keep up with the changes.
UPDATED 2/23: As of this afternoon, Bonchon has also announced that it will not be accepting takeout orders over the phone until further notice. You can still place a takeout order while you're there, but the post cautions that "the wait will still be at least half an hour for our chicken."
