Opening Report: South Bowl Gets Rolling; Mexican and Mezcal for Graduate Hospital

Plus, a new BYOB with a local focus and a Kardashian-adjacent chef debuts in Old City.

South Bowl/Facebook

1) WHITMAN — The South Bowl megaplex is finally off the ground, though they're calling it a soft opening, so expect hours and/or offerings to expand in time. The North Bowl relative combines lanes, a restaurant and bar, and other games and diversions. As far as the food goes, there have been promises of wood-fired pizza (also, this sandwich that looks tricky to eat but potentially worth the struggle), with executive chef Todd Goldman and sous chefs Jennifer Choplin and Mark McQuown in the kitchen. Status: Open. Current hours: 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; kitchen closes at 11 p.m. 19 East Oregon Avenue, (215) 389-2695, official site.

2) GRADUATE HOSPITAL — Los Camaradas has made its debut at 22nd and Carpenter streets, in the corner spot that was most recently the Strip Joint. It's open seven nights a week (the bar will stay open until 2 a.m., though the kitchen closes earlier), and there's a strong focus on tequila and mezcal behind the bar, with several tasting flights available. Status: Open. 918 South 22nd Street, (215) 309-3727, official site.

3) OLD CITY — Now open in the space that previously housed tourist trap Paninis Trattoria, Luna Cafe is a 30-seat BYO promising American bistro dishes leaning on locally sourced ingredients. The chef is Jordan Andino, whose credits include cooking for multiple Kardashians and Food Network stars: He's appeared on Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons, Beat Bobby Flay, and Chopped, "where he garnered many adoring fans," per his own bio on his own website. They're open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch; closed Mondays. Status: Open. 317 Market Street, (215) 309-3140, official site.
