Opening Alert: Big Gay Ice Cream Philly Just Opened Its Doors

"Surprise!"

BGIC/Twitter

The Big Gay day has finally arrived: Rabidly anticipated NYC-based ice cream shop Big Gay Ice Cream just opened its doors to the public for the very first time, one day earlier than some outlets had guessed it might happen. The opening was just announced tonight via Twitter:

Owners Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff had already promised to serve dessert at the shop to attendees of a book signing and meet-and-greet tonight at Juniper Commons, but were almost gleefully unwilling to get specific about the shop's official opening. But if they wanted to be on hand for the big reveal, now was clearly a good time to do it — it looks like the duo have an awfully packed travel schedule ahead of them to promote their book.

The truly important thing is that the wait is over and you could be eating a Salty Pimp or a Mermaid sundae right now. Though if you were hoping to be the first one in, you're too late. That honor apparently goes to these two:

The shop is open from noon to 10 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday, and from noon to midnight Thursday through Saturday.
