Long-running sandwich shop and veggie-hoagie mecca Chickie's Italian Deli announced over the weekend that it will close its doors in a matter of days. In a Facebook post that set off a long chain of understandably devastated replies, the final day was declared to be Saturday, April 11.
Owner Henry George told Philly.com that he has "no immediate plans to open elsewhere." Chickie's current location was listed for sale in early 2014, though the outlook was a bit more encouraging back then. At that time, George said he planned to reopen in a new location with most elements intact.
