PENNSPORT — 1st Ward Sandwich is a couple days in at Front and Morris, serving an eclectic mix of sandwiches, salads, and sides. There are some Italian varieties as you might expect from a South Philly sandwich shop, but there are also lamb merguez pitas with tzatziki and pickled veggies, oyster po'boys, and more, all in the $9 to $12 range. SOUTH STREET WEST — Also a couple of days in, Ti Penso is a new American BYOB with a sweet backyard at 21st and South. Dishes include seasonal salads, pierogi in flavors changing daily, mussels, and housemade desserts including cannoli and gelati. Currently, it's open for dinner only, from 5 to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday; lunch and brunch to follow. Note: Ti Penso will be closed on Sunday, June 14 during the Odunde Festival. QUEEN VILLAGE — Now open for about two weeks, Imli is a BYOB serving northern and southern Indian on East Passyunk (near Catherine). Look for dosa, chaat, a variety of kabobs, and much more. AMBLER — A second location of Alice Bakery & Confectionery, Dennis Darr's excellent North Wales-born bakery and cafe specializing in French breads and sweets, is now ready to go in Ambler, just in time for the town's Arts & Music Festival. In addition to breads and pastries, expect La Colombe coffee, cafe fare like sandwiches, quiche, and soups, and custom cakes for special events. Hours have not yet been decided upon (they'll open early, with hours extending a bit later Thursday through Saturday than the rest of the week), so call ahead or monitor social media updates to be sure as they settle in.
