FREE FOOD — Dizengoff (whose hummus was just named Dish of the Year by Bon Appetit, by the way) is celebrating its one-year anniversary today, Tuesday, August 18, by giving away free hummus with the purchase of a beer or lemonnana, from 5 to 6 p.m. only. One per customer; anticipate a line. (For nostalgia's sake: The hummusiya first opened its doors to the public on August 8 last year.) [Instagram]
WASHINGTON D.C. — To this day, one of the most asked questions we hear around here is, "What's Jen Carroll up to?" The chef, who worked for Eric Ripert at 10 Arts and has appeared multiple times on Top Chef and its spinoffs, has reportedly partnered with friend and fellow Top Chef star Mike Isabella on a big new project that will take her to DC — but it's not scheduled to open until mid-2017. CROWDFUNDING — Philly's cat cafe dreams are a bit closer to becoming reality as Kawaii Kitty Cafe this week received an anonymous $5,000 donation that pushes it much nearer to its $20,000 Indiegogo goal. They're still a few thousand shy of the mark with five days left, but unlike an all-or-nothing Kickstarter, this is a "flexible funding" crowdfunding effort , meaning they'll keep what they raise no matter the final tally.
