Nicole Marquis' latest vegan bar and restaurant, Bar Bombon (which was previously going by the working title of JoseJose), softly opened last night in Rittenhouse Square. While the official grand opening date is Monday, August 24, the newcomer is in full swing now and through the weekend, serving lunch and dinner.
Just steps away from the original location of sibling spot HipCityVeg, in the former Crumbs Bake Shop space, this latest from Marquis & Co. has an aesthetic inspired by Old San Juan and a taqueria-ish menu incorporating a variety of Latin American flavors. That means tacos, nachos, and burritos, but also empanadas, stuffed plantains, and a "Cubano club" sandwich. (Pricewise, think $14 for two tacos, though they're served with rice and beans, not a la carte.) It's all vegan, and along the lines of Marquis' other spots, there's a mix of faux meats and straight-up vegetable options.
There's also a full bar, and takeout is available. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Bar Bombon, 133 S. 18th St., (267) 606-6612, now open.
