The wait has been long, but as of 5 p.m. tonight, Marcie Turney & Valerie Safran will finally open the doors at Bud & Marilyn's. The hotly anticipated throwback spot at 13th and Locust pays respect to American classics and to Turney's own restaurateur grandparents, with updated takes on nostalgic dishes and a mid-century modern decor.

It's a day ahead of the most recent opening estimate, at least:

The focus is on dinner for now, but lunch and brunch service are promised soon. (Also keep an eye out for upcoming weekly specials, like a Sunday meat-and-three.) Happy hour runs from 5 to 7 p.m. every weekday, and additional "night owl" specials kick in after 10 p.m., including citywides and a signature burger. Bud & Marilyn's is open seven days a week, and reservations are already live.

The menu pulls references from all over, with an eye toward updating retro classics, from beef stroganoff to pu pu platters. Chicken liver pate is dressed up with Vietnamese accents and pretzel brioche, the charcuterie plate goes full Southern with country ham, biscuits, and pimento cheese, and comfort foods are well represented by meatloaf and rotisserie or fried chicken platters. Here's the full spread:
