There used to be a time when the South Philly Barbacoa cart was open from 5 a.m. until they sold out, Saturdays and Sundays only. This summer, they moved into their very first, super colorful, absolutely heartwarming restaurant space on 11th and Morris, and changed their hours to Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 5 a.m. until sell-out.
Now, chef/owners Cristina Martinez and Ben Miller are opening their doors for lunch, and they're so excited about it: Cristina was outside shouting to passing neighbors, inviting them inside for some tortas and coffee.
Lunch hours go from Tuesday through Thursday, 5 a.m. - 2 p.m. Lunch offerings are a bit different than what you might find during weekend hours. Expect a rotating menu of tortas with house-baked bread, atole (a hot corn-masa based beverage, perfect for the changing season), cakes, fresh juice, and coffee.
