FITLER SQUARE — How do you improve upon the nitro coffee trend? Same way you improve upon pretty much every other thing: Just add ice cream. Rival Bros., in collaboration with Weckerly's ice cream, is bringing nitro floats back to the cafe for one day only this weekend. Available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, each float costs $5 and features their Whistle & Cuss nitro draft with two scoops of ice cream in the flavor of your choosing. (Selections will include vanilla, caramel corn, honey plum, and others.) [EaterWire]
EAST PASSYUNK — Sam Jacobson's brand-new pie and mash shop, Stargazy, had a big first week, selling out repeatedly and landing a spot on the Eater Philly Heatmap. If it's on your must-try list, note that the shop will take a little holiday break this weekend: Jacobson announced on Facebook that he'll keep limited hours (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) on Saturday, September 5 and close on Sunday, September 6 (in addition to the shop's usual day off on Monday), reopening for business as usual on Tuesday, September 8. QUEEN VILLAGE — The Living Room Cafe is now open in Queen Village for breakfast and lunch, replacing the former Cups & Chairs (but under the same ownership). Menu highlights include a breakfast banh mi with pork roll and fried eggs, congee with Taiwanese sausage, and fried chicken and waffles with orange syrup. There's also a full range of coffee, tea, juices, and smoothies. The Living Room Cafe, 703 S. Fifth St., (267) 930-8388, now open.
SOUTH PHILLY — Longtime Sports Complex haunt Philadium Tavern, which was shut down in April over back taxes and later listed for sale, reopened this week. Philly.com reports that "it will be pretty much the same," and we wouldn't have it any other way. Philadium Tavern, 1631 Packer Ave., (215) 271-5220.
