Look for a mid-February opening.

Almost a year and a half ago, Jeff Poleon and Matt Quinn announced their plans to find a brick-and-mortar location for their start-up (vegan) donut line, Dottie's Donuts. Today, West Philly Local broke news that Poleon and Quinn found a home in West Philly at 4531 Springfield Avenue.

The donut duo met while working at Philly's favorite vegan pizza spot, Blackbird Pizzeria, and have since sold their product in coffee shops all over the city. Despite the donuts being, in fact, vegan, Poleon and Quinn don't want their product to be pigeonholed by the term:

Owners Jeff Poleon and Matt Quinn don't like advertising their products as vegan because they don't want to alienate the non-vegan market. "After years of working in the food industry, we realized that there were a lot of assumptions about vegan foods," explained Poleon. "So when we decided to start our business, we decided it was just a donut."

They crafted a recipe out of coconut milk and a natural egg substitute, which is almost indistinguishable from a typical donut recipe. "Vegan is a bonus point. Kind of broadens our customer base," Poleon added.

Dottie's Donuts are aiming for a mid-February opening. Stay tuned.
