Cakes, Pastries, and Cafe Dining Coming to Girard Estate

Cafe Jeet & Kay Kay's Cakes is slated to open around February of 2017

Update: Oct. 26, 11:48 a.m. Kahana told Eater today that the name of the project has changed. After speaking with her partners at T&N, they've decided on Cafe Jeet & Kay Kay's Cakes. "Jeet" is Philly-lingo for "Did you eat?"

More Sweets Week-related news: a new bakery in South Philly was announced on Facebook yesterday evening. Kaylyn Kahana, the owner of Kay Kay’s Cakes, joined forces with Tom Deeney and Michael Tuono of T&N HomeMade Kitchen (which, by the way, serves up a mean breakfast), and will open Kay Kay’s Cafe Cafe Jeet & Kay Kay's Cakes at 1850 West Ritner Street, in the former Relli’s Bakery directly across the street from Taproom on 19th.

Kahana tells Eater she’s estimating store hours to go from 6:30 a.m., with bagels, croissants, Italian pastries and a full full-service coffee bar, to 8-9 p.m. with more afternoon-evening appropriate items like quiches, soups, salads, and sandwiches. Of course, her custom cakes will be made and sold from the shop as well.

After some extensive build-out, Kahana is hoping for a February 2017 opening.
