Cupcake Champions Opening a Fishtown Bake Shop

Cake Life opens this Saturday

Cake Life/Official

Fishtown’s hottest restaurant and retail strip will get its very own bake shop this Saturday, November 5, when Cake Life opens next door to Bottle Bar East and Kensington Quarters at 1306 Frankford Avenue.

Owners Nima Etemadi and Lily Fischer, friends for close to 16 years since attending Sarah Lawrence College together, thought up the idea of their bake shop/cafe after coming in second place on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars Champions. Fischer had initially won a Cupcake Wars competition with her original business partner, but the two have since parted ways. When she was called back to participate in the Champions edition, Fischer reached out to Etemadi, who holds a pastry degree from the International Culinary Center. The rest was history.

Cake Life is a full-scale baking operation, so expect wedding and special event cakes (see the above photo), but not everything requires a pre-order: they’re encouraging walk-in guests to BYOB, enjoy some Rival Bros. coffee and some savory and sweet pastries like cookies, scones, pies, muffins, and cakes by-the-slice. Need a last minute party cake? Choose from the "case cakes"— a variety of 4"-8" cakes baked and ready for purchase. Check the full menu here.

Shop hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
