‘Spicy’ Szechuan Restaurant Opening in Washington Square West

Walnut Street lands another casual eatery

Sandwiched between Matt & Marie’s Washington Square West location and the Wendy’s on the corner of 11th and Walnut Streets is a new Szechuan restaurant called Spicy Memory. A very brief conversation with the owner Helen Ying revealed the restaurant should be open in about a week.

Back in February, Philly.com reported that Willow Grove’s Colonial Quy-Bau would open in that 1105 Walnut Street address, but a call to Colonial proved otherwise. A restaurant employee told Eater, “The deal fell through.”

The stretch of Walnut Street between 11th and 12th Streets has turned into quite the casual dining destination, what with Destination Dogs, Matt & Marie’s, and Bareburger expanding their brand just a few doors from each other, plus a vegan quick-serve by Bryn Mawr’s Vgë Cafe opening up shop in the former Maoz Vegetarian space.

Stay tuned for more details as they develop.
