Cheu Fishtown Will Be More Than Just Noodles

The Cheu-dudes are going big on Frankford Avenue

Cheu Fishtown — 1420 Frankford Avenue

Earlier this year, the boys behind Cheu Noodle Bar and Bing Bing Dim Sum, Ben Puchowitz and Shawn Darragh, announced their new Cheu location opening in the old Bicycle Stable building on Frankford Avenue in Fishtown. Today, they took to Twitter to share a new, little update with their followers:

Cheu Fishtown, as it will be called, is in a much larger building than the original in Washington Square West. Back in March, Puchowitz told Eater they'd "be able to do more things" with the added space, which Darragh confirmed today on a phone call, “We’re still going to do noodles, but also larger plates and snacky items." The ground floor dining room will be 40 seats big with a 13-seat noodle bar (plus a private dining/party room); the upstairs mezzanine will allow for more prep-space so the kitchen can back to more intensive menu options (options they had set out to do originally, but discontinued after realizing the kitchen's physical limitations).

But little did anyone know they'd take it a step further and sign a lease to the “dirt” between 1412 and 1420 Frankford Avenue. Cheu Fishtown will be in the stable, next to it, an outdoor patio, and next to that, the new concept — something "bar-focused". Further than that, Darragh said was too soon to tell.

They’re shooting for a first-quarter 2017 Cheu Fishtown opening. The other concept, which they're building from the ground up, will be sometime later that year.
