Petruce et al.'s saga finally came to an end this past Valentine's Day, says Foobooz, when after service, Jonathan Petruce, the remaining chef-owner of the brother duo, shut its doors for good. This may not come as much of a surprise considering last year, a listing for the property went up on MSC Retail's website, and not too long after, Justin Petruce, the restaurant's other half, was found cooking kale in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Petruce brothers' wood-fire kitchen won some high praise from the city's most influential critics, both Trey Popp (Philadelphia magazine's bygone restaurant critic) and Craig LaBan doled out three stars and bells to the inventive cookery going on behind the lines — that and great cocktails coupled with a smart wine list by at-the-time beverage director Tim Kweeder (now doing some fine work at Kensington Quarters).
Until a sale is made, Jonathan Petruce will continue to use the space for collaboration dinners and events. Meanwhile, Justin will continue his career in Florida working at Kevin Sbraga's Jacksonville restaurant, Sbraga & Company.
