SUGA, the collaboration restaurant sitting at 1720 Sansom Street by legendary Philadelphia restaurateur Susanna Foo and her son Gabriel Foo, is now open — as promised. And with its opening marks the return of Susanna Foo to her Center City roots — a long time coming since she opened her Asian-fusion eponymous restaurant on Walnut Street in 1987.
Foo, as always, will still be in the kitchen, this time with her executive chef, Clara Park, recently of SouthGate, and sous chef, Chris Dougherty. And while her former Philadelphia restaurant was a fusion of global flavors and techniques, SUGA has more of a straightforward, purely Chinese approach. Menus can be found here.
Right now, SUGA is only open for dinner service starting at 5 p.m., but look for weekday lunch and weekend brunch once they settle into their new digs. Happy hours go from 5 - 7 p.m., and then again from 10 p.m. - 1 a.m.
