Helm Crew to Open a Second Location in South Philly

Kevin D'Egidio, Michael Griffiths, and Justin Manne are turning an ex-sandwich joint into a farm-driven BYOB.

When chef-owners Kevin D'Egidio and Michael Griffiths opened Helm, the immediacy of their success was unprecedented considering that the neighborhood it's in isn't exactly primed for a top-notch, high end BYOB. That didn't stop them — nor should it. The two are at it again, this time in South Philly, on the corner of Front and Morris Streets, where they'll open South Helm sometime in April.

Not to worry, the original Helm isn't going anywhere. They're just expanding the concept to the masses, keeping tabs on both places once they open. The concept will be no different than its sister in Kensington: an inviting, little BYOB, farm-focused, with all pretense left at the door.

Easy, impassioned cooking by D'Egidio and Griffiths, complemented with a service team led by Justin Manne, sounds like a recipe for success, no matter the neighborhood they choose to call home.
