Feast Your Eyes Upon ROOT in All of its Mid-Century Modern Glory

Frankford Avenue is lookin' real nice these days

ROOT opens this weekend (for the exact day, pay close attention to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook), and it is truly a sight to behold. Frankford Avenue's new restaurant and wine bar was born from two industry all-stars: Greg Root, Stephen Starr's Director of Restaurants for well over a decade, and Nick Kennedy, whose resume comes stacked from New York: Scott Conant's corporate chef de cuisine, executive sous at Del Posto, and sous chef at Jean Georges.

They've turned the space at 1206 Frankford Avenue (under Amrita Yoga) into a mid-century modern marvel full of sweet, sweet restaurant eye-candy. The wraparound walnut bar, smack in the middle of the restaurant, gets crowned, floor-to-ceiling, with shimmering brass rods. The tile floor, an Escher-esque mosaic of white, black, and yellow, projects a wonderful contrast to teal-blue chairs and walnut tables, both accented with the same brass from the bar. The windows along the front wall open to no obstruction from the outside — perfect for warm-weather al fresco dining. Tour the space above, it's truly a thing of beauty, and stay tuned for menus.
