ROOT, had sort of a hush-hush opening over the weekend. Saturday, it became official — Greg Root , Nick Kennedy, and Nathalie Richan opened the doors and windows to their gorgeous new restaurant and wine bar at 1206 Frankford Avenue, and since then, it's been open at 4 p.m. daily. Today, chef Nick Kennedy, the man who comes from New York with experiences as sous chef of both Jean Georges and Del Posto, and corporate executive chef for Scott Conant's restaurants, released his menu.

At first glance, the menu looks simple: some snacks, a few toasts, meats, cheeses, and larger plates, all priced under $22 (get a few, they're meant for sharing). Largely, the menu items are meant to complement ROOT's affordable wine list — no glass exceeds $12.50 and many bottles sit between $45 and $65, adding to the growing trend of Philly restaurants doing their very best to curate top-notch wine lists without wallet gouging price-points.

Things to get excited about on Kennedy's menu? Chicken liver toast with guanciale (cured pork jowl, better than bacon), spinach-ricotta gnudi soused in brown butter, and a big plate of grilled seafood dressed simply in a lemon-aleppo pepper vinaigrette.

ROOT's hours are 4 p.m. - 11 p.m., daily. Don't forget, brunch is coming down the pipeline.
