Jose Garces and Atlantic City have a strange past. The Revel Casino was supposed to be the dilapidating shore town's pièce de résistance, a super-luxe, $2.4 billion moon-crowned casino and hotel expected to turn the city around, or at least help push it in the right direction. Garces bought in and expanded three Philly concepts to A.C., Distrito, Village Whiskey, and Amada. Then, after only two years, Revel shut down, and when it did, Garces had no choice but to do the same.

Now: round two.

Garces is opening "multiple seafood concepts" at the Tropicana — all part of a $40 million renovation to the casino-hotel. No names or concepts have been released just yet, but it'd make all the sense in the world if he brought Buena Onda, his Philly surfside taqueria, to an actual surfside.

Stay tuned for updates.
