Since Nodding Head made its departure, the densely packed block of Sansom Street that houses both Ocean Prime and Oscar's Tavern has lacked for a drinking location somewhere in between the two.
Later this summer that'll change when Sam Mink and chef Brett Naylor, both of Oyster House, open Mission. To be located upstairs from Oyster House, the 4,500-square foot space will celebrate the energy of both Mexico City and San Francisco's Mission District. That means tequila, mezcal, eight taps, a line-up of fresh juices (for non-alcoholic cocktails), and a menu of authentic Mexican flavors. As they outfit the space, with the help of Hope Velocette of Chrysalis Studio, they're attempting to bring the outside in. There'll be shuffleboard, and they're adding skylights and plants to suit the high-ceilings and brick walls.
Though no opening date is set yet, when it does you'll be able to enjoy dinner and late night offerings. Better yet, soon there will be a new place to call home for Oyster House's happy hour overflow.
