Today is opening day for Point Breeze’s newest BYOB, On Point, a neighborhood bistro at 1200 Point Breeze Avenue, the former Breezy’s Cafe. Husband and wife team Juan and Mallory Lopez (with the help of Mallory’s twin sister and brother-in-law) transformed the space from a casual counter-service shop into a homey dining room complete with family photos hung along the walls.
For its first week, it’s brunch only. Starting at 9:30 a.m. every day (except Monday), the bistro will be pumping out Juan’s take on familiar brunch items like pancakes, french toasts, and omelets, as well as a few share items like charcuterie boards, cheese boards, and breakfast nachos. On the savory side, go for a breakfast burger or a Mexican caesar salad, or even better, a fancy grilled cheese stuffed with a cheese mix of Pierre Robert, cheddar and gruyere, plus quince membrillo and shaved pears. Dinner service starts next week (September 20), and it’d be safe to assume the menu will be just as family friendly as its brunch menu.
