The Fat Ham in the King of Prussia Mall Opens Today

Philly's first Top Chef winner brings his Southern charmer to the 'burbs

The King of Prussia Mall, and its brand new foodie-annex Savor, is hotter than ever after Kevin Sbraga's southern comfort restaurant The Fat Ham opened this morning.

University City's Fat Ham sprouted at a time when Nashville hot chicken wasn't the trendy menu item it is today — really, Southern cuisine at large was pretty under-represented in Philly before Sbraga turned the city onto it. Now, you can find the Nashville staple at Spruce Street Harbor Park's Lil' Fat Ham, and, as of 11:30 a.m. today, at 350 Mall Boulevard in the King of Prussia Mall.

Contrary to University City's low-country stylings, Eimer Design went for something a bit more modern for its King of Prussia location, a design "reminiscent of modern Charleston." So, instead of walls decorated with wooden folding chairs, look for red-stained rafters draped with string lights, a sleeker look with light woods mixed with aged metals.

The menu (below) is sort of an abbreviated version of the original, still offering the heavy-hitters, i.e. benne seeded mustard greens, hot chicken, and shrimp & grits, but with smaller and more casual with a section dedicated to sandwiches (think Carolina pulled pork and Texas brisket).

Hours go from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily, except for Sunday when they open noon and close at 6 p.m.
