Larry Rosenblum and Gigi Arnuti, owners of Rittenhouse's Montreal-style bagel shop Spread Bagelry, have expanded to University City with a second shop by the same name at 3602 Chestnut Street, in the old Pizza Rustica space. The year-in-the-making bagelry officially opens today.
Generally speaking, the menu is much of the same in terms of its Rittenhouse counterpart: Montreal-style bagels (honey-kissed, hearth-baked), bagel sandwiches, and La Colombe coffee which includes tapped Pure Black and Draft Latte.
Starting "early next week" according to a store employee, when its liquor license goes into effect, the Univeristy City's Spread gets the addition of tap cocktails, wine, and craft beer, plus an 80-bottle beer list, available every day until 10 p.m., with an entire bagel-accented dinner menu to boot. Until then, hours will go from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily.
