Fresh off Cheu Noodle Bar landing a spot on Eater Philly’s list of the 38 most essential restaurants, owners Ben Puchowitz and Shawn Darragh announced on social media that the Fishtown outpost of Cheu is opening this weekend.
Cheu Fishtown, a much bigger version of the Asian-ish Washington Square West noodle spot, is in the old Bicycle Stable building at 1416 Frankford Avenue. The original has small plates, like black garlic wings and pastrami pork dumplings, and a few ramen bowls and noodle bowls — see: ramen with brisket, a matzo ball, and kimchi. With more room to work with, the Fishtown restaurant will have a bigger menu, but look for the same inventively inauthentic Asian theme.
Puchowitz and Darragh also own Bing Bing Dim Sum on East Passyunk Avenue. Like Bing Bing and the first Cheu, Cheu Fishtown is anything but staid in decor: Check out this mural by artists Yok & Sheryo.
More to come.
