Dottie's Brings Vegan Doughnuts to Queen Village

It opens this week right next to vegan pizzeria Blackbird

Jeff Poleon and Matt Quinn, the duo behind Dottie’s Donuts, know 6th Street in Queen Village well. The block, which is where their vegan doughnut shop will be opening its second storefront on Saturday, is also where the two partners met while working at Blackbird Pizzeria, a popular vegan pizza parlor. “It’s funny to be walking the same commute from the train, four years later,” Quinn says.

Dottie’s Donuts began as a wholesale business, stocking local coffee shops and other eateries, before opening its first brick-and-mortar location in West Philly last year. It has a devoted fan following of vegans and non-vegans alike. Regulars can expect the same line-up of Instagram-worthy doughnuts in Queen Village, like matcha vanilla, rose-water pistachio, chocolate hazelnut, and the Homer (pink glaze with Simpson-esque sprinkles).

The new shop will ease into service, opening with very limited hours on Wednesday, August 23. The official start is Saturday, August 26, when Dottie’s will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those will be the regular hours until bigger equipment is brought in at a to-be-determined date. Once the capacity is ramped up with the new equipment, Dottie’s will most likely mirror Blackbird’s 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. schedule, so vegans (and everyone else) will be able to grab a dinnertime slice or a cheesesteak at Blackbird before heading next door for dessert.
