Last week Eater got word Curt Large and Josh Shemesh were finishing up renovations at the former Irish Pol in Old City and would be debuting their new venture, Gina’s 45, very soon. Well, it’s happening today. Old City’s newest bar is open starting at 4 p.m. They’re calling it a soft opening, so don’t expect full hours just yet.
The space had been vacant since early 2015, when Irish Pol relocated to 114 Market Street (where it still is). Large and Shemesh, who also have Fishtown Tavern, took over the property, gutted it, and spent about a year renovating it. Kristen Shemesh, Gina’s 45 manager and Josh’s wife, said the building needed a lot of work and everything is brand new, including the bathrooms.
The second-floor bar was moved to allow access to the tall French windows, which can now be opened. There are bars on both levels, with bar rails and stools along the walls. Outside, the eye-catching facade was restored and repainted from orange and green to black and white. Go check it out.
