Craft Liquors Touch Down on E Passyunk With New Bar and Tasting Room

No need to visit Fine Wine & Good Spirits

Pottstown distillery Manatawny Still Works has touched down in brick-and-mortar form on East Passyunk, with the small batch booze maker opening its own bar and tasting room — partly operational as of this week.

The venue has two functions — firstly, it’ll serve cocktails (made with Manatawny vodka, whiskey, rum, and gin), wine, and local beer, although with opening hours until 11 p.m. most nights, it won’t be a late-night spot (note that the bar service starts next week).

But more notably, it’ll sell take-home liquor. As Philadelphia Magazine notes, this is more of a novelty — in 2016, the state’s liquor control board loosened the rules on distilleries based within Pennsylvania (although not by much). PA-based distilleries can now sell liquor outside of their proper distillery, and outside of Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores, via a tasting room like Manatawny has done here — cheers to freedom?

STATUS — The Manatawny Still Works tasting room is open at 1603 E Passyunk Avenue from noon to 11 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday (noon until 8 p.m. for this weekend, until the bar opens up).
