Here’s the deal: Philly’s own Federal Donuts was tapped to come up with a different doughnut for each night of Phish’s Baker’s Dozen concert series at Madison Square Garden. Before each of the 13 shows, which ran July 21 through August 6, Mike Solomonov’s fried chicken and doughnut shop handed out limited-edition “fancy” doughnuts to the first batch of concert-goers to arrive at the venue. And now the doughnuts are available closer to home — for one day only. All four local Federal Donuts will be selling Phish x FedNuts creations tomorrow, August 10.
The Phish collaboration came about thanks to Federal Donut’s Felicia D'Ambrosio, who’s a big fan of the band, telling the Associated Press she’s been to more than 100 shows. New York pastry chef Mark Welker noticed a blue vanilla raspberry doughnut D’Ambrosio created before a 2015 Phish concert and recommended her to the group, who was looking for a doughnut maker for the Baker’s Dozen run, according to the AP.
Phish requested flavors and D’Ambrosio and chef Matt Fein figured out how to translate them to doughnuts. On stage, the band incorporated the flavors into their set: The strawberry milkshake glazed inspired them to play the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever."
Much like a phish show, pre-orders for tomorrow's #bakersdozen @FederalDonuts are now SOLD OUT! https://t.co/Qa7rQZyZ5X
