Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was in Philly over the weekend and he made his cheesesteak preference clear. Late Sunday night, Zuckerberg posted a photo of himself ordering at Pat’s King of Steaks in South Philadelphia along with a divisive caption:
“Traveled all the way to Philadelphia for the best cheesesteak in the land.”
That’s right, he called the cheesesteak at Pat’s the best in the land. Even if that land is limited to East Passyunk Avenue and 9th Street, where Pat’s and the neon-lit Geno’s face off, that’s a heated statement in Philly.
Pat’s claims to have invented the cheesesteak in 1930, though of course by now there are plenty of places to get a respectable cheesesteak in Philly — not to mention all those far-flung imitators around the world pretending they know what they’re doing.
The night manager at Pat’s told Philly.com Zuckerberg went with the tried-and-true combo of Whiz and fried onions, and said he was in town on business.
Over 5,000 people have already commented on the Facebook post.
