Giuseppe & Sons, the two-in-one Italian restaurant from Michael Schulson, Nina Tinari, and two generations of the Termini Brothers Bakery family, opens Tuesday, November 27, at 1523 Sansom Street. Eater shared a peek into the massive eatery earlier this week, including the street-level luncheonette — with its South Philly Italian-style sandwiches, sweets like the Terminis’ famed cannoli, and full bar — and the sprawling basement, which has been transformed into an upscale restaurant serving Italian-American classics.
It’s right next door to Harp & Crown, another bi-level spot from Schulson and Tinari, who are married. Their restaurant group also includes Double Knot, which has a similar upstairs/downstairs concept, though it’s much smaller than the 14,000-square-foot Giuseppe & Sons.
For now, the counter-service luncheonette is serving food weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bar will stay open until 10 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday, 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and midnight Friday and Saturday.
The sit-down restaurant downstairs is open from 5 p.m. nightly, closing at 10 p.m. Sunday to Tuesday, 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and midnight on Friday and Saturday. The downstairs bar — topped with Carerra marble and lined with 18 seats — stays open two hours later.
