A year after word first got out that Brickwall Tavern was heading to Philly, the pub is finally ready to open its doors. Brickwall, located at 12th and Sansom streets, starts serving comfort food and craft beer on Friday, May 4. It also has locations in Asbury Park and Burlington in New Jersey.

Brickwall is owned by Smith, the company behind Porta, an upscale (and enormous) pizzeria that opened a branch in Philly in January. The two eateries are side by side in a 22,000-square-foot space listed as 1214-16 Chestnut Street. But while Porta’s entrance is on Chestnut Street, Brickwall is behind it, fronting Sansom Street across from Fergie’s.

Philly diners already familiar with the pizza and pasta at Porta are in for a totally different experience at Brickwall. The tavern’s menu is heavy on bar fare and comfort foods. Look for wings, burgers, mac and cheese, hot chicken, and shrimp and grits. There are also some less meaty options like a falafel and couscous salad. To drink, Brickwall will be pouring a long list of craft beers.
