Philly’s newest Wawa, going into 2131 South Street right at the corner of 22nd and South, is officially opening April 12. The date coincides with Wawa Day, marking the anniversary of Wawa’s first store opening in 1964. It’s also the anniversary of when Wawa founded its nonprofit foundation in 2014.
To celebrate Wawa Day, every store in the entire chain will be giving away free coffee on April 12, including the brand-new South Street location. On the same day, the company plans to announce where its next Center City locations will be — which means there are even more downtown Wawas on the way — and reveal the opening dates for all of the in-the-works Wawas we already know about, like the one at East Market.
But wait, there’s more! Wawa is also going to be releasing more details on what the company is calling “a historic, one-of-a-kind store, coming soon to the Independence Mall area.” Per Curbed Philly, it’s going into the Public Ledger Building at 6th and Chestnut. Stay tuned.
