The Fillmore Welcomes a Summery Beer Garden This Weekend

With a very special guest DJ

Fishtown concert hall the Fillmore is set to become somewhat of a drinking destination — at least on weekends, and at least for this summer.

According to Philly.com, the venue is adding a next-door beer garden named Fish Tank, at 23 E Allen Street. It’s not just the Fillmore on board: neighboring comedy club Punch Line Philadelphia, and craft gin-and-more distiller Philadelphia Distilling are also in on the project, which will run Saturday and Sunday evenings through Labor Day weekend.

The Fillmore is decking out the parking lot space with picnic tables and games, dogs are welcome, and snacky food such as falafel and fried pickles will be served. For booze, expect cocktails from Philadelphia Distilling, including a strawberry G&T and basil alongside beer and slush drinks. The event also doubles as a fundraiser for the Music Forward Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to help disadvantaged youth forge music careers.

Fish Tank seems to straddle the line between a relaxed drinking atmosphere, and more of a party one: the first days this weekend (June 2 and 3) will feature big-name Philly DJ Questlove, as part of a collaboration with dance party Sundae (not to be confused with an ice-cream based “sundae party”, as the Philly.com story suggests).

Future weeks will regularly feature DJs and other party pop-ups, but the event is generally free — although the Fillmore’s site suggests that there could be some special events with a cover charge.

Fish Tank opens this Saturday, June 2. Open 7 p.m. to midnight Saturdays and 5 to 10 p.m. Sundays throughout summer.
