The West Philly branch of Fishtown taqueria Loco Pez is now open in Cedar Park. The casual, cash-only restaurant and bar had been in the works for two-plus years. Also taking a long time to come to fruition: A third Loco Pez in Grad Hospital.
Loco Pez first opened in Fishtown, at 2401 E. Norris Street, in 2011, serving what it calls Los Angeles-style Mexican street food. The menu ranges from a bacon-wrapped hot dog and a fried chicken sandwich with habanero mayo to a list of “meats and such” (beef, chorizo, chicken, seitan, and so on) available inside tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, and chimichangas. There’s a long list of tequilas, as well as beers on draft and in bottles and a few wines.
Owner Joe Beckham’s second Loco Pez, following the same format, opened over the weekend at 4631 Baltimore, “in the spot that the Carrot Cake Man used to occupy in the old Montrose building.”
The third is going into the former Robert’s Twi-Lite Lounge at 20th and Bainbridge. Beckham added a second story to the building, so that one is taking a while.
The long wait is over. Loco Pez is holding a soft opening this Saturday. Stay tuned for more info.
