This New Federal Donuts Sandwich Will Be Gone in the Blink of an Eye

Friday is the first day to get it

Federal Donuts loves to toy with us. The homegrown fried chicken-and-doughnut chain that counts star chef Mike Solomonov among its owners has a history of adding limited-time treats to its menu with little or no warning, and then taking them away much too soon. See: Phish-inspired strawberry milkshake doughnuts, sugary red-white-and-blue July Fourth creations, and decadent doughnut-sundae collabs. And now the Federal Donuts team is at it again, this time turning their focus to the chicken. Starting Friday, July 6, all six Federal Donuts locations will be selling a barbecue fried chicken sandwich. It’s only available through Sunday, July 8.

This isn’t just any barbecue flavor. Federal Donuts is making a coffee-barbecue sauce using its own java blend. The sandwich also has summer slaw and cheddar cheese, all on a Martin’s potato roll.

While you’re there, you might as well pick up a peanut butter malt “fancy” doughnut or one of the Federal Donuts classics: cookies and cream, cinnamon brown sugar, or strawberry lavender.

The barbecue fried chicken sandwich will be at Federal Donuts’ Center City (1632 Sansom Street), West Philly (3428 Sansom Street), South Philly (1219 S. 2nd Street), and North Philly (701 N. 7th Street) locations, plus the outposts inside the Fairmount Whole Foods (2101 Pennsylvania Avenue) and at Citizens Bank Park.
