A vegetarian cafe is in the works in Fishtown. Pom Pom is joining the restaurant lineup on Frankford Avenue, going into a newly constructed building at 1425 Frankford, Philly.com reports. The owners are shooting for a summer opening, with plans to serve lunch and dinner initially and possibly expand into breakfast and late night.
The fast-casual Pom Pom is from Ben Bigler and Jeff Walcott. This isn’t their first Fishtown venture: They also have Soup Kitchen Cafe & Spirits at 2146 E. Susquehanna Avenue.
Soup Kitchen serves an American menu of soups (of course), sandwiches, and breakfast fare. It has a liquor license, so beers, ciders, and cocktails are on offer.
It sounds like Pom Pom will be similar in vibe (likely minus the alcohol, given its fast-casual status), but the menu will be all vegetarian and vegan. Bigler and Walcott told Philly.com they’re planning a selection of salads, sandwiches, and vegetable dishes.
Bigler says expect a significant number of entirely plant-based options.
Pom Pom’s hours will likely be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Looking at the real estate listing for the property, there’s a back patio, so outdoor seating might be on the table.
Philly is a great city for vegetarian and vegan options. Along with Pom Pom, pizza shop Double Zero should be introducing itself to the Philly food scene later this year. In Rittenhouse, 20th Street Pizza from Mark Mebus of Blackbird is opening imminently.
