This winter, several powerhouse chefs are teaming up to bring creative dinners to Philadelphia. From essential Philadelphia restaurants Fiore Fine Foods and Kalaya teaming up to showcase street food from different cultures to a benefit with a James Beard-nominated chef from Puerto Rico, here are three events to get excited about over the next couple of months.
Puerto Rico Benefit at South Philly Barbacoa
When: Saturday, January 11, to Tuesday, January 14, starting at 7 p.m.

James Beard Award-nominated chef Maria Mercedes Grubb of Gallo Negro in San Juan is taking over the South Philly Barbacoa kitchen for a four-day pop-up to showcase her eclectic take on Puerto Rican cuisine. The pop-up will collect donations to support relief efforts from the earthquake that hit Puerto Rico on Tuesday. The dinner was originally scheduled to be a one-night collaboration between South Philly Barbacoa chef Cristina Martinez and Grubb at Reading Terminal Market; this will be rescheduled.
Fiore Fine Foods Pop Ups

Essential Philly restaurant Fiore is hosting a pair of creative pop-ups. First, on Tuesday, January 28, chef Ed Crochet is collaborating with chef Nok Suntaranon of 2019 restaurant of the year Kalaya on a menu of Thai and Italian street food. The a la carte menu will feature six small plates from each chef.
Then, next month, essential Brooklyn restaurant Win Son (home of Eater Young Guns ‘17 Trigg Brown) will be popping up again at Fiore. The menu be three courses that highlight Win Son’s Taiwanese-American flavors using Fiore’s wood fire.
Palizzi Social Club at High Street on Market
When: Friday, February 7, from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

High Street on Market is transforming into a different local pizzeria every month, and this month it’s the buzzy Palizzi Social Club, giving non-members a chance to try it out. Chef Joey Baldino will be serving Italian favorites from his new cookbook (each guest receives a signed copy), with a family-style menu including starters, pizza, sweets, aperitifs, and digestifs (wine and cocktails served a la carte).
