Sichuan restaurant Jane G’s at 20th and Chestnut, closed for a few months after a fire in the kitchen, isn’t coming back as is. Instead, the owners have decided to transform the space into the second location of their University City eatery, Dim Sum House. It should open around Valentine’s Day.
Jane Guo, who had previously owned Noodle Heaven at Broad and Locust, opened Jane G’s at 1930 Chestnut Street in a former Hollywood Video store (remember those?) in 2012. She served a pan-Asian menu at first but later refocused it to Sichuan dishes. Five years later Guo and her son, Jackson Fu, went west to add Dim Sum House at 3939 Chestnut Street.
Their University City restaurant has a bar, a lounge-y area with a pool table, multiple dining rooms, and a many-page menu, with Cantonese dim sum, Shanghai dim sum, Sichuan plates like chili oil wontons, mapo tofu, and dan dan noodles, Shanghai-style wonton soup, fried rice, Peking duck, Wuxi spare ribs, three-cup chicken, and and lots of other options.
Look for similar offerings at the upcoming Rittenhouse location, which also has a bar.
