Just when everyone thought the Mare of Easttown buzz was over, residents of Southeastern Pennsylvania will rejoice in learning that we are — in fact — still in the spotlight. On Thursday, June 10, Wawa — the regional convenience store that features heavily in the Kate Winslet HBO miniseries — will be dedicating the opening of its relocated Upper Darby store with Mare of Easttown Day. The event will be BYOEB: bring your own emotional baggage.
Starting at 8 a.m., the dedication will also bring with it a limited edition promotion for the Mare of Easttown spicy cheesesteak, made with spicy cherry pepper relish, a decision Wawa representatives say was made to reflect how “spicy the show is.” From June 10 until June 17, locals visiting any of Delco’s numerous Wawas will have exclusive access to the Mare of Easttown spicy cheesesteak to pair with their locally appropriate Yuenglings. At the store opening, there will also be a limited number of Wawa Delco shirts, a ribbon cutting by detective Christine Bleiler (the real detective Kate Winslet modeled her character after), and a $10,000 donation to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Visitors to the dedication at 418 West Baltimore Pike in Upper Darby need only follow one rule: Eat your cheesesteak just like Mare would — by stuffing it in your face one-handed.
