The Eater Margarita Map: Where to Drink Margaritas in Philly

Keep it classic or go for a fruity version

Margaritas at Mission Taqueria
| Daniel McLaughlin

The margarita is one of the most popular cocktails in America. It makes sense: Margaritas are refreshing, balanced, and infinitely diverse. Go tried-and-true with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice with salt on the rim, or get creative: Spice it up with a jalapeño infusion or sweeten the drink with seasonal fruity flavors. Hot day? A frozen margarita will definitely hit the spot.

At Mission Taqueria, there’s no need to cheat on your detox, thanks to a fresh-pressed green or (new!) yellow juice margarita. At Cafe Ynez, save some cash when you BYOT: Bring Your Own Tequila. Throughout the city and ‘burbs, try one of dozens of different fruit flavors, like watermelon, tamarind, pineapple, guava, cucumber, or prickly pear.

The list of margarita options is long at Stephen Starr’s popular corner spot El Vez. Choose from 10 different varieties (including one made with vodka), and then decide between frozen or not, in a glass or a pitcher.

Among its seven margarita varieties, Lolita’s most popular involves blood orange, lime, and mint. Start with that — especially during happy hour when they go for $6 — and then keep exploring. A few come in pitchers, perfect for sharing.
